What is a DIY escape room?

Escape rooms are immersive games where players are “locked” in a room and have to find clues and solve puzzles to escape. You can pay and play escape rooms all over the world.

This Seafloor Escape kit is a download that has everything you need to host the same kind of high-suspense, realistic-feel escape room, in any room you choose. All of the planning has been done for you. You just print, prepare, and host.

In Seafloor Escape, your guests end up “trapped” in a flooding underwater hotel—with no power! Your guests will have to accomplish several tasks to escape, including searching the room in the dark for clues and turning the power back on—not to mention catching a corporate spy!

Will this escape room kit work for me?

This escape room is designed for:

• 3 to 5 players
• Ages 12 and up
• About 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete (If you play the game as it is written with clues hidden in a dark room, it will take closer to 1 hour. If you play in a light room without hidden clues, it will probably take closer to 30 minutes.)

For groups larger than 3 to 5 players, you can run the room more than once or have multiple groups compete at the same time. The groups don’t even have to be in their own rooms. If your space is big enough, just divide players into teams of 4ish and give each team a set of clues at their own table.

It’s a great room if you want the feel of a commercial escape room, where your guests really feel like they’re locked in a room and are trying to escape (and if you don’t mind doing some reading and setup). If you want something quick and easy that only involves printing, it’s not the room for you.

How does it work?

After you purchase Seafloor Escape, you will get a set of files to download. Included are detailed instructions, printable clues, and some fun extras (like invites, decorations, photo op signs, background ambiance music, and instructional videos).

You will print the clues from the download as well as supply some physical objects like locks (see below for a complete list). Then hide the clues in the room and watch as your players search, solve, and escape! Everything you need to do and say is included in the instructions. Even if you’ve never done an escape room before, you can do this!
